O.K.........................................NOW WHAT?
I just got a ups delivery of a few items I ordered from one of those bike catalogs. I bought the above HRM in an attempt to do some beneficial excercise at the Y. Problem is I don't have a clue how to use the damn thing. I think I want to work out in the "burn fat and increase endurance zone" but don't know what that number would be.?.? Is there an easy answer or am I gonna have to read the manual?
I did manage to turn it on and so far I've learned that my blogging HR is 70-73.

Read the training manuals and instuctions on your gear in 2007. You will then be ready to train in 2008. Don't miss a day or you have to start over from scratch.
Well I think endurace mode would be around 75 to 80 and burn fat would all depend on if it was lite beer or the good stuff. I just figure at aroud 80 you wouldn't get tired at all drinking The tools beer.
Here's how to use it:
1) Open box
2) Shake your head
3) Scratch head
4) Put everything in it's fancy case
5) Find bike gear bag or bike gear storage area.
6) Place whole unit under a bunch of other gear.
7) Forget that you ever owned a HR monitor.
If you do this right now and not waste your time paying attention to that thing you will be much faster come race season!
Word. You've now exited the riding zone and entered the work zone.
You may be able to make your money back on it through Ebay if you post it before Christmas.
You wanna work out better Bubba? Just come and ride in front of me on some nice long winter road rides. I'll heckle you so bad that you'll work hard just trying to get the hell away from me.
Actually that's a super valuable training tool, but it will take some time to learn it. Start by RTFM. Then keep logs so you can get a feel for what HRs correspond to certain efforts over certain periods of time. Also keep track of your resting HR in the morning - supposedly if it jumps you're overtraining or about to get sick. Push for a blogging HR of 70-80% of max HR for optimal blogging performance!
or you could put it in you drawer and not use it like you will in about six weeks when you still can't figure out how to use it.
Step one; do a time trial to determine your lactaint threashold.
